Kara Ebanks was appointed as Head of the Insurance Supervision Division of the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (“CIMA”) effective June 2023.
Ms. Ebanks has over 17 years of experience in the insurance industry, beginning her career as an Account Administrator working with various insurance managers within the Cayman Islands. In 2007, she joined CIMA in the Insurance Supervision Division as an Analyst. Subsequent promotions resulted in her appointment to Senior Analyst in 2011 and later to Chief Analyst in 2016, where she assumed additional responsibility for managing team outputs, leading meetings, working various projects to streamline processes and mentorship.
Throughout her tenure at CIMA, Ms. Ebanks has engaged with the local industry and has been actively involved in various high-level matters through conferences and stakeholder meetings, including the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS),Caribbean Association of Insurance Regulators (CAIR) and the Group of International Centre Supervisors (GIICS).
Ms. Ebanks holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from the University College of the Cayman Islands and a Master of International Business(Cum Laude) from Florida International University. Ms. Ebanks holds the designation of International Fellow of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and the Toronto Centre.
